# Localization & Language Support

AdaTrack supports multiple languages across the entire platform — the dashboard, landing page, email notifications, alert messages, and Chat Bot responses. Each user selects their preferred language independently; it persists across sessions and devices.

**Supported languages:**

| Code | Language            |
| ---- | ------------------- |
| `en` | English (default)   |
| `sk` | Slovenčina (Slovak) |

***

## Changing Your Language

Language preference is set per user in **Settings > Localization**.

1. Open the sidebar and click your username or navigate to **Settings**.
2. Scroll to the **Localization** section.
3. Use the **Language** dropdown to select your preferred language.
4. Click **Save Preferences**.

The interface switches immediately — no page reload required. Your selection is saved to your account and restored automatically whenever you log in, including on other devices.

## What Gets Translated

Selecting a language applies to all user-facing text in the platform:

| Area                | Coverage                                                                                    |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Dashboard UI | All page titles, form labels, buttons, navigation, error messages, and confirmation dialogs |
| Validation errors | Password rules, field validation feedback, and registration prompts |
| Email notifications | OTP emails, password reset, and alert digest subjects and bodies |
| Alert notifications | Geofence transition and telemetry alert message text |
| Chat Bot messages | All Telegram and Slack command responses and inline notifications |

## Landing Page

The marketing site at [adatrack.io](https://adatrack.io) detects your browser's language automatically — if your browser is set to Slovak, the page renders in Slovak without any action required.

You can also switch language manually using the **EN | SK** toggle in the header navigation bar. The selection is saved in your browser and persists across visits.

## Chat Bot Localization

Chat Bot command responses (Telegram and Slack) are sent in the language of the linked AdaTrack account. If a user links their chat identity to an AdaTrack account that has Slovak selected, all responses from `/devices`, `/telemetry`, `/status`, and other commands will be in Slovak.

Users without a linked account, or whose linked account has no language preference set, receive responses in English.

See the [Chat Bot guide](/docs/documentation/features/chatbot.md) for setup instructions.

## For Self-Hosted Administrators

No additional configuration is required to enable localization. All language catalogs are embedded in the AdaTrack binary — no additional files to deploy or environment variables to set.

When a new locale is added to the platform in a future release, it will be available automatically after upgrading. To apply the required database migration that adds the new locale to the validation list, run:

```bash
adatrack-ctl upgrade
```

## Contributing Translations

If you would like to contribute translations or improve existing ones, see the [Localization Contributing Guide](https://github.com/AdaTrack/adatrack_platform/blob/main/docs/localization/CONTRIBUTING.md) in the project repository. A platform-specific glossary (`docs/localization/GLOSSARY_sk.md`) defines the agreed Slovak translations for AdaTrack-specific terms such as "Device Profile", "Geofence", and "Payload Decoder" to ensure consistency across all strings.

To add a new language to a self-hosted installation, contact your AdaTrack reseller or open an issue on GitHub — adding a locale requires both a translation catalog and a database migration.
